They were doing a lot of T&E at Wpns Training Bn here at Quantico for the IAR program. Marines from Wpns Pltn, TBS did some test/fam fires with the IAR's... probably SysCom, too. I almost got to go once, but it didn't work out.
One of my major beefs is that it is mag fed as opposed to belt fed. If there's a problem with your 100rd mag you have to do a mag change. If you've already fired, say, 40rds that leaves 60rds ineffective in your bad mag. With a belt you could break a couple of rds off and load it back up. You've wasted a few rds instead of 40 or 50.
Also, there's the issue of your rounds getting dirty. At first the mag sounds like it would keep your rounds cleaner, right? Well anybody who's operated in the "sandbox" can testify that dust and sand get EVERYWHERE. You would have to unload your 100rd mag, clean each rd, and clean the mag. With a belt all I have to do is remove it from its drum, scrub it with an AP brush, and I'm done.
I do realize there are pros and cons to both systems, but I'm only making a case for the SAW right now. I would like a new weapon in the USMC arsenal. I just don't think it should REPLACE the SAW.
